Being chosen as a Featured Artist at the Calgary Farmers’ Market was a true success!
This was my first time really putting myself out there on my own — and needless to say, I was nervous.
I’ve been visiting the market for quite some time and have always loved its community spirit and joyful atmosphere. I couldn’t imagine a better place to debut my work.
It was fascinating to see how people interacted with my paintings. I loved watching visitors walk in and noticing which pieces caught their eye. Seeing someone light up in front of a painting filled me with so much joy. I also began to notice patterns — different people connected with different works. Two little girls, for example, were drawn to my colourful deer paintings; both pieces ended up finding homes with a grandmother and a mother who bought them for their granddaughters and daughters.
These human interactions were my favorite part of the experience. My other customers included a very lovely couple — the kind of people who remind you that love and kindness are very real. They both admired the artwork together, and later each returned separately to secretly buy a painting for the other. It was so touching, and I’ll never forget them.
In total, I sold seven original pieces and received several commission requests. I’m taking everything I learned from the experience — especially the feedback from visitors — and applying it to future events. Many people mentioned they would have loved to purchase a print if originals were out of their budget, so that’s something I will consider going forward.
Once again, thank you to everyone who stopped by my booth — and especially to those who purchased my art. I’m eternally grateful for your support, enthusiasm, and kindness.
